{"id":6393,"date":"2023-07-27T18:43:56","date_gmt":"2023-07-27T18:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/involvement.co.ke\/?p=6393"},"modified":"2023-07-27T18:43:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-27T18:43:56","slug":"coup-attempt-in-niger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/invo.nyarango.me\/index.php\/2023\/07\/27\/coup-attempt-in-niger\/","title":{"rendered":"COUP ATTEMPT IN NIGER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>{Photo courtesy of Financial Times}<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>By Samuel Owino<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Troops from the presidential guard of Niger have declared a coup on Wednesday 26 July 2023 after holding the president and key ministries hostage.<\/p>\n<p>Col Maj Amadou Abdramane and nine others soldiers from the presidential guard, declared on national television that they have put an end to the government regime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, the defence and security forces&#8230; have decided to put an end to the regime you know.\u201d Maj Amadou said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis follows the continuing deterioration of the security situation, and poor economic and social governance.\u201d He continued.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that said that the soldiers were acting for the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP)<\/p>\n<p>The African Union and the western bloc, ECOWAS have commented, rebuking these actions to seize power by force.<\/p>\n<p>The attempted coup in Niger marks the seventh coup in West and Central Africa since 2020, making the efforts to promote stability by the western forces in the Sahel region much harder.<\/p>\n<p>The country has remained largely peaceful since the coup announcement.
