{"id":2661,"date":"2021-03-26T21:53:01","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T18:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theinvolvement.wordpress.com\/?p=2661"},"modified":"2021-03-26T21:53:01","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T18:53:01","slug":"president-john-magufuli-laid-to-rest-at-his-home-in-chato","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/invo.nyarango.me\/index.php\/2021\/03\/26\/president-john-magufuli-laid-to-rest-at-his-home-in-chato\/","title":{"rendered":"President Magufuli Laid to rest at his home in Chato"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Daniel Nyaga<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:danielnyaga.dn@gmail.com\"><strong>danielnyaga.dn@gmail.com<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theinvolvement.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/03\/b78855d3-5ef5-4428-a7f6-c02c8eeefc46.jpeg?w=800\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2663\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tanzania\u2019s fifth President John Pombe Magufuli was on Friday given a hero\u2019s send off as he was laid to rest in his ancestral home of Chato, Geita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the week, the late President\u2019s body was being moved through different towns in the country for public mourning and to permit residents to view it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Magufuli\u2019s body arrived at Rumbambagwe Stadium mid-morning today and soon after, there was the singing of both the national anthem and the East African anthem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The requiem mass then got underway in Chato, Geita region, North-western Tanzania. The catholic mass was conducted by Archbishop Gervas John Nyaisonga, Tanzania\u2019s Episcopal Conference (TEC) president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magufuli\u2019s body was lowered into the ground by Military generals who followed through with a 21 \u2013 gun salute in his honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theinvolvement.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/03\/117718572_pictanzania.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2664\" \/><figcaption>Military carrying the body of President John Magufuli during his burial ceremony in Chato, Tanzania- BBC<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In attendance were the late President\u2019s family members, close friends, President Samia Suluhu Hassan and ex-presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Jakaya Kikwete, among other dignitaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tanzanians were able to follow the proceedings of Mr. Magufuli\u2019s burial via live Television and Radio. He was admired by many citizens for his serious approach to corruption and his no nonsense approach to leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former President, Jakaya Kikwete delivered a eulogy in Kiswahili stating, \u201cI nominated him for the presidency and I had no doubt,\u201d he said, describing Magufuli as \u201can honest, hardworking, attentive leader who does not tolerate negligence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Felix Maluma, a trader in the largest city, Dar es Salaam, stated his shock of the late President\u2019s demise as he said, \u201cI don\u2019t think we will have such a good leader,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I pray that the next leader gets the courage to fulfil the promises made by President Magufuli,\u201d added Maluma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Magufuli who passed away on March 17, due to heart complications at Mzena Hospital is the first Tanzanian president to die in office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Daniel Nyaga (danielnyaga.dn@gmail.com) Tanzania\u2019s fifth President John Pombe Magufuli was on Friday given a hero\u2019s send off as he was laid to rest in his ancestral home of Chato, Geita.
