{"id":2397,"date":"2021-03-12T15:52:34","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T12:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theinvolvement.wordpress.com\/?p=2397"},"modified":"2021-03-12T15:52:34","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T12:52:34","slug":"political-gatherings-main-cause-of-rise-in-covid-19-infections-uhuru","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/invo.nyarango.me\/index.php\/2021\/03\/12\/political-gatherings-main-cause-of-rise-in-covid-19-infections-uhuru\/","title":{"rendered":"Political Gatherings Main Cause of rise in Covid-19 Infections &#8211; Uhuru"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Sumaya Hussein<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(<a href=\"mailto:husseinsumaya1@gmail.com\">husseinsumaya1@gmail.com<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theinvolvement.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/03\/president-uhuru-kenyatta-delivering-the-14th-national-address-on-covid-19-in-the-country-pscu.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2402\" \/><figcaption>President Uhuru Kenyatta delivering the 14th National Address on Covid-19 in the country &#8211; PSCU<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Uhuru Kenyatta has today banned all public gatherings for 30 days effective, midnight on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president noted that the rise in cases of Covid-19 seen in the last few weeks were fueled by political gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Head of State added that the restrictions will be extended if infections do not reduce, and apply to everyone regardless of their political or social standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his national address, the President added that burials should be conducted within 72 hours of death, and funeral and wedding attendees are limited to 100 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nationwide curfew has also been extended for a further 60 days, with bars and restaurants ordered to close at 9pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today marks a year since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country has recently seen a sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 infections, and on Wednesday the Health ministry termed it as a third wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, vaccination programs have so far been launched and over 4,000 people have received their first jabs of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among those vaccinated are healthcare workers and people in uniform as they are on the frontline of battling the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Kenyatta in his address, lauded Kenyans for their resilience against the effects of the pandemic that greatly impacted the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs much as our nation was wounded, it remains unbowed,\u201d said Kenyatta, \u201cInstead of giving into the shocks of lockdowns, businesses have reengineered their business models, responding to shocks.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sumaya Hussein (husseinsumaya1@gmail.com) President Uhuru Kenyatta has today banned all public gatherings for 30 days effective, midnight on Friday.
